Cyanobacteria are what used to be called "Blue/Green algae".
Identification of Cyanobacteria is most easily done using Autofluorescence. The “Blue/Green” component is chlorophyll, the same as is found in plants. It is intensely autofluorescent when excited by Green light.
Some CSTs have called these fluorescent cyanobacts “Flaming Hot Cheetos”… that works. Keep in mind however, that they are green, chlorophyll-containing, spiral-shaped strands of bacteria. The do have DNA (0f course), but SYTO and DAPI will stain almost the entire cell.
